Disclosure: Purchases made through store links above may provide some compensation to Jarrod'sTech. The ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED strikes the perfecbalance between portability and great featureslike the OLED screen, despite its smallesize. And ASUS have sponsored this video so I cashow you all about itASUS’s 14 inch Lumina OLED touchscreen ithe star of the show here. It looks great, the colors and contrast arstunning. OLED screens just look the best in my opinionthey’re always crisp and clear as it providetrue blacks by turning off individual pixels. Now that said, we all know that OLED isn’perfect. We know that burn-in is possible with extendeuse over time. But ASUS have a number of OLED care optionbuilt in to help reduce this. First, the screen automatically dims afte5 minutes of idle, as burn-in is more likelat higher brightness. After 30 minutes of idle, by default witpixel refresh enabled a specially designescreen saver kicks in, which reduces the chancof burn-in by illuminating and darkening alpixels equally. The laptop comes with dark mode enabled bdefault, again to keep fewer pixels runninbright, and you’ve got the option of authiding the Windows taskbar, removing statielements on screen. There’s also pixel shift, which moves thdisplayed pixels slightly to avoid consistentlshowing static images. If that’s not enough, a current drivinalgorithm detects aging pixels that are subjecto burn in and compensates for it, keepinthings looking good with a more accurate perceiveimage over time. On top of all that, ASUS have a 2 year warrantfor the screen if you do happen to experiencburn-in, though this varies by country. Honestly, I think it’s great that ASUS artaking this approach to OLED. They’re not just promoting the positiveand ignoring the negatives, but are insteaactively and openly doing what they can timprove the OLED experience. But of course there’s more to this new laptothan just the screenThe Zenbook 14 OLED has a nice slim designat just under 0.6 inches or 1.49cm thin. It’s lightweight at 2.8lb, perfect for on-the-gproductivity, even if you do need to takthe small 65 watt Type-C charger with youbut that’s going to be less likely becausbattery life is seriously impressive. It lasted for 11 hours in my regular YouTubvideo playback test, making it one of thbest results I’ve ever recorded. When it does come time to charge, ASUS sayit can charge up to 60% in just 49 minutesThe MyASUS software gives you the option oenabling battery care mode, which limits thmaximum charge level to 80%, helping improvbattery longevity. It has a lightweight aluminum alloy chassiwith an anodized lid, which feels smooth ansturdy. I wasn’t able to bend the lid at all, it’solid. There was some flex to the keyboard when pushindown hard, not unusual for a thinner machinebut it wasn’t ever noticeable just typinnormally. It’s available in the lighter foggy silvefinish that I’ve got here, and a darkeponder blue finish. I found the silver keyboard to look bettewith the lighting off in a well-lit room athat provided better contrast, but the whitbacklighting was useful in a darker environmenand can be adjusted between 3 brightness levelwith the F4 shortcut key. It has an ambient light sensor too, so yocan set the keys to automatically brighteor dim based on your surroundings. I like how typing on the keyboard feels. It’s got 1.4mm of travel and the key pressejust feel nice and clicky. There’s even a shortcut on the F8 key topen the emoji window, something I’ve neveseen before but definitely beats pressinthe windows key and full stop shortcut althe time. The glass touchpad is smooth to the toucand works well. It’s nice and big, and you can hold youfinger over the top right corner to enablthe numpad, while the top left corner adjustthe brightness between two levels. Obviously it’s not as nice as a regulanumpad, but considering 14 inch laptops don’have space for a numpad this is certainlbetter than nothing. The screen goes the full 180 degrees bacfor sharing, and the back raises up a littlwhen you open the lid, improving cooling ballowing more air in underneath, and givina slightly better angle for typing. There’s a fair bit of connectivity considerinthe thinner design. From front to back the right side has twThunderbolt 4 Type-C ports, a 3.5mm audicombo jack, and a HDMI 2.1 output, while thleft side just has a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-port. Either Type-C port can be used to charge thlaptop, and both offer DisplayPort outpufor connecting screens, allowing for a totaof 4 displays including the laptop’s screen. There’s a 1080p camera above the screewith a physical privacy shutter, and witWindows Hello face unlock you can wake iup from sleep and get straight back to worwithout delay. Here’s how the camera and microphones looand sound, and this is what it sounds likwhile typing on the clicky keyboard. My Zenbook 14 OLED is powered by Intel’latest Core Ultra 9 185H Meteor Lake processoroffering 6 P cores, 8 E cores, and 2 of theinew lower powered E cores. With Meteor Lake, the operating system wilfirst try to run a new workload on these lowepowered E cores, only sending it to the regulaE cores and then P cores if more power irequired. This approach results in better power efficiencand more run-time compared to the last geapproach of firing up the P cores straighaway. The included MyASUS software gives us thredifferent performance profiles, so we cachoose to get more performance at the expensof more fan noise if needed. You can easily swap between the performancmodes at any time with the function and shortcut. CPU performance is better in the higher modesas expected and shown here in Cinebench. Higher modes allow the processor to use morpower. But more power equals more heat, so let’find out how loud the fans get. It was completely silent at idle and eveduring light work, I almost never noticethe fans unless I was running a heavy benchmark. Whisper and standard modes were still relativelquiet, even with a full blown CPU stress tesrunning for hours. Most apps don’t actually behave that wafor extended periods, so quieter fans arexpected. I’ve demonstrated the worst case here. The keyboard was still fairly cool to thtouch, even with the heavy CPU workload runninfor hours. The warmer spots only felt a little warmit’s nowhere near feeling hot, even in thhigher performance modes - a great resuloverall for thermals. The CPU’s single core performance was quitimpressive when compared to much bigger laptopswhich helps translate into a nice snappy experiencin Windows. It’s worth noting that all of the laptopperforming better are physically larger tooso this is a great result from a thin anlight chassis. The performance hardly lowers at all if wunplug the charger and run completely on batterpower, so you can still get work done withouslowing down while on the go. It’s even able to beat a few of those largelaptops now, impressive stuff. Intel’s Core Ultra series also has theiArc graphics inside, so although this is noa gaming laptop, you can definitely do somlight gaming on the side with these powerfuintegrated graphics. We’re looking at a 70% FPS boost in thigame compared to last year’s ZenbookThe Core Ultra series also has a neural processinunit, or NPU, which is basically dedicatehardware for accelerating future AI workloads. A good example is using a background blueffect with the camera. This task gets offloaded to the NPU, usinless power compared to standard CPU or GPU acceleration. In other words, this means the task is nomore power efficient, which equals more batterlife and a quieter laptop. The Zenbook was quite easy to open after removin7 TR5 screws. Inside we’ve got the 4-Cell 75Wh battertaking up most of the space, a full sizeM.2 2280 slot just above with the SSD installedbut Wi-Fi is soldered to the motherboardand so is the RAM. That’s just an unfortunate compromise oa smaller design like this - you can’t fieverything without going bigger. So although there’s no memory upgradesit is available with up to 32 gigs which shoulbe plenty for most people for some time tcome, and soldering does at least mean iuses faster LPDDR5X memory. Mine came with a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD installedand the speeds were decent. At least you’ve got the option of upgradinto more capacity if you want, unlike, saya MacBook which uses soldered memory. It has Wi-Fi 6E too, and I measured transfespeeds faster than gigabit, a good resuland faster than many wired ethernet connections. The speakers are on the left and right sidedown the front, and I’d say they sound abovaverage for a laptop this size. They get quite loud at max volume, but I founthem clearer with some bass and still plentloud at about half volume. So along with ASUS’s Lumina OLED screeproviding excellent visuals, the Zenbook 1also has excellent battery life and a 16 corprocessor that brings impressive performancfrom a thinner and lighter design, makinit perfect for using at home, in the officeor on the road. You can get more information about it witthe link below the video, so check that oufor all the details. Or check out one of these videos next to finout about all of the other new laptops thaASUS have coming in 2024. There’s a lot of cool stuff, so I’ll seyou in one of those next!
