HP's upgraded Spectre x360 13 is truly a near-perfect laptop. It (almost) has it all: beautiful design, impressive battery life, better-than-average keyboard, and a quality display, all for a price that's more than reasonable. Of course, it's not perfect, and we found a few things that could clearly be improved. But the HP Spectre x360 13 incmay be the best value out of 'em all. Today I'm gonna tell you what's neand great about this laptop for 2019. Stay tuned. (techno musicAlright the Spectre x360 haa special place in my heartit's the first HP laptothat came out in 201that really convinced mthat HP can make a laptothat I actually would want. Since then, it's undergonquite a few revisions. I wasn't that much ilove with last year'swhich made some changes didn't think was necessary. They made some morchanges again this yearbut wow, it's so good. This new visual ID that thewent for, this gem cut desigis really excellent. And it's just an amazing feathat their engineers havaccomplished with it. There's a lot going on with this laptopI still think it's probably the best valufor most people out there. But there's still couple things that reallbother me about it too. Alright, let's get to the touand show you what's newith it for this year. Alright, looking at thtop of the Specter hereyou can see the HP logoreally nice designand they do have the antenna line herfor WiFi and Bluetooth. HP's still very big at puttinit on top of the displafor a maximum reception. It does have a trade off thougwhich I'll show you whewe talk about the displain a minute. Looking at the righhand side of this devicethere's a lot going on here. We have a micro SD sloand, well this is new. So this is a kill switch for the webcamerso you just flick it over here. And what it's doing, it'killing the camera basicallthrough an electricacircuit which is kinda nice. You still don't know it'technically not workinI mean when we try to use a webcamerait won't work of course. But I'm not sure it'as good as a slide covebut it's still a nice option to have. Over here you have a USB type as well as a headphonjack and a little LEto let you know it's charging. And it's also because yohave another USB type over here in the corner. Now these are full Thunderbolt 3with four PC PCIE lanesso it should be very good. And this whole cornedesign is super clever. It's not just to make it look coolit's so when you have that power chargerit shoots off kinda behind the laptop. But it frees up the right hand sidso if you're using a mouseyou won't have interference from cables. It's actually very utilitariaand pretty a great design. Looking at the left hand sideyou do get the power buttoon that back angle againand that's so you don'accidentally hit iwhen holding it in tablet mode. So while it may look coolit's also again, very utilitariaand I like that a lot. You also have a USB type for your old peripherals. Now looking at the bottom of this devicevery clean design here I love that. You have the nice intake vent here. There are two fans on thinside which is very good. The HP cooling system habeen criticized in the pasI like this year's a lot, with dual fanit just basically meanyou can have smaller fanthat run a little bit more quietas opposed to one gianfan that gets really loud. And it works very well herethis laptop never gets very loud at all. Sure, you'll hear it during updateand everything like that butit's still a very cool and quiet systeand the thermals on thidevice are pretty nice as well. And speaking of elegant designthat air gets blown out the back herthrough this ventilation systewhich, again, I think juslooks absolutely stunning. Now you take a look here to the displayand well it's a mixed bag actually. It's a very good displayit is a 13.3 incfull HD, there is a 4K option. There's also a version with Sure Viewif you don't know what that isHP Sure View is a button you can hiand it does masking of the screeso onlookers can't sewhat's on your display. It started with the EliteBook serieand has now worked it's way to Specter. Overall though, nice display. Bezels are well, they're kindthin and kinda not rightSo on the side here yohave very thin bezelsslightly thinner from last yeaand I do like how thtop and bottom bezelare more symmetricalso that's kinda nice. But I'll have to admit, theare kind of thick as well. Now probably that'because the antenna systeis right there. And that's the way HP does your devices. They prefer to maximizthroughput for the antenna systeand as a result here, igoes through the plastic. So, you also do get Windows Hello camera. It works pretty well as wellit's a dual IR lens system. It does stay on a little bit longethan I would like after the effect. But that's a simple bug fix I think. Regarding color accuracywe're talking around 98, 99 percent SRGB. And around 79 percent Adobe RGB. And around 300 nits for brightneswhich is actually very good. It's not the highest we've seebut it's, you know, good enough. Overall though, thcontrast and display on thiit's just a really good screen. I really, really like itit's just pleasant to look at. It is glossy and supporttouch, and supports pewhich we'll talk a little bit more abouin a few minutes here. I just wish those bezelwere a little bit thinnebut there you go. Alright let's look athis keyboard deck here. So you do get the audio system back here. So you get two speakersBang & Olufsen quality. Just really, reallnice speakers actuallyHP's done a really good joof improving audio on these devices. You also get two morspeakers on the bottowhich helps when yoswitch this to a tablet. Overall though very good audio. I just like the way ilooks too with that grillI think it looks really sharp. For the keyboard, I'vreviewed these in the pastI think HP makes some of thbest keyboards on the market. And that stands the truth here. And this is such a good keyboarjust really enjoyable to type on. Really good travel, probablabout 1.2 millimeters. Now the arrow keys are little bit small over herbut, overall great design. And I like the edge to edge look as well. Another change for this year isthey put the fingerprint frothe side to the top deckas where it should be. I think most people agreethat's a great place foa fingerprint reader. So in case you don't want tuse the Windows Hello systeor you kill the camerand want to leave it offyou can use a fingerprinreader as a nice backup. Regarding the trackpad, really nice size. This is HP's elongated designthey've been doing thifor a few years now. Very smooth glass, pretty good feelingnice clickiness as well, buit uses Synaptics drivers. You knew I was gonna say that. They're not using Precision on this devicand well, that drives me nuts. There's just no world wherSynaptics is gonna be better. For instance here, this ithe Huawei MateBook X Prowhich does have Precision driverand you can see here when I pinch and zoowell, it is night anday difference with thPrecision's driver doing a bang up joand the Synaptics onwell, just being garbage. So again HP, I'm gonna implore yoplease change your drivers. Now one great thing about this laptop isit does include a pen here. So here is the HP pen that is included. It does use Intrigue Technologiesso this is basically thsame as a Surface pen. If you have a Surfacpen, it will work here. It's a pretty solid pen tooit's great for note takingand some mild artistry. It's not quite as good don't think as a Wacom pethat they use in their higher end devicesbut this is still very good. And the fact that it'included in the boxwell it's a nice addition. However, there is no way treally attach it to this devicso you just have to carry it in your baand hope you don't lose it. It doesn't have any magnetor any way to stick to it. Something their EliteBook series doesthat this one does not. Alright let's talk abouthe power and performancof this device. Now HP is sort of selling this as thmost power efficient and best battery liffor a 13 inch, two-in-one on the market. And it's actually probably pretty true. We'll talk about battery life in a secondbut let's go through the specs. So we're talking about Core i7-8565Uthis is just pretty ruof the par these days. This is a Intel Whiskey Lake Processor. It's really nice, 15 watt. It does clock a little bit higher herrunning a little bit warmer. And with those dual fans iactually runs very well hereyou get better performance than last year. It doesn't quite run as well as sathe Huawei MateBook X Prowhich just has a bettethermal profile on itbut still a very good processor. Speaking of that processorHP has new software this yeacalled HP Command Center. Which is something they'vused in their gaming seriesbut it's now in the UltraBook. It's a stripped down versionbut it gives you thermal profileso you can run it cooler or warmedepending on what you want. And that affects the noise. So if you are in an office settingand just say in a meeting, anyou just don't want any fanwell you hit that silent buttoand well, it's gonna stanice and quiet for yowhich is really nice. But if you want performanceyou can do that as well. Now it comes to RAM, yoget eight or 16 gigabytes. It is DDR4, so it's thgood stuff that we want. And the SSDWell we're using WesterDigital this time arounwith 256 gigs, so it getvery good performance. Of course if you go to the 500 gig serieyou're gonna get a littlbit better performancdue to the dual and parallenature of how SSD's workso just keep that in mind. Now for graphics, nothing to tell hereIntel UHD 620 which is gointo be pretty basic again. No MX150 or 250, thtrade off you're gonna gefor the size and form factor. It is a teeny laptop, evecompared to the Dell XPS 13. Now when it comes to battery lifeHP's claiming 22 hourwhich is definitely absurd. It's gonna be around 10 hourdepending on the form factor you getwhether it's full HD or 4K. The 4K probably around eight houror a little bit less than that. But yeah, full HD you could definitely gesay 10 hours out of thisit's very good battery lifand I like the performance out of it. Now another big change tthis year, is connectivity. So they're using the Intel 9560it's gigabit class wifi on here. It's a really good performer. And when you combine it with the antennon the top of the display, whicgives you those fat bezelswell you still get vergood throughput on thiI had very good reception sthat's really nice to have. There's also now an option for LTif you want that as welyou can go through HP'website and configure that. I'm a huge fan of having that option. It also has eSIM onboard too soit's a really nice modem to have. And that's gonna be kind othe theme here with this devicjust all-day power, anall-day connectivitfor wherever you are. And I think they've succeeded so far. Alright let's bring it alin, in the Specter X360. So this is still onof my favorite laptops. First of all the designit's just outstanding. It's almost too niceI almost feel like they over-engineerethe hell outta this thing. But I mean I'm not reallcomplaining about itit just stands out from the markeas just being a really elegant laptop. Maybe even a little tofancy for some people. Now you only get two colors. You can get this dark ash versionand there's also now blueish color as welthat has a lighter paler brass color. They both look really greabut there's no silver version anymore. I'm kinda okay with thatsilver keys if you remembejust didn't work welwith a backlight design. So, this I think, looks really nice. Now if there's two things could change about this laptopwell, it's real easy. So first of all, those display bezels. I'm okay with the ones on the side. The ones on top and bottoma little bit thicker than I would prefeand I think that many oyou will agree with thatespecially compared to thtrends in the market right noweverybody's going very thin here. So I'd either like to see thinner bezelsor more ideal, I'd lovto see a 3:2 aspect ratiput into this device, or even 16:1if we wanted to giv'em a little space here. I understand it's a little bihard to get those parts herebut man, that 16:10 with this form factowould be totally killer. The other thing that really bothers meit's gonna be that touchpad. They really need to geoff those Synaptics driverand just jump on Precision. Again, it's just a terrible thing to havthat otherwise mars a basicalla perfect laptop here. So HP, please I'm implorinya', I keep telling yachange those drivers. As to who should buy this deviceWell, I think anyonwho wants a really nicconvertible laptop. It's got great audio, it's really nice typing experienceI love the display on this too. The pen is really goodeverything about this devicjust looks really sharp. And it doesn't look likany other laptop on the market right nowand I gotta give HP credihere for their new idea. What they've done with this design hereI think is just really outstanding. Pricing is also $1,400. And you can go to Best Buand pick one up yourself. So if you don't believe me oyou want to go check it outjust go to your local storand see it for yourself. But, I think the pricing is very gooddon't forget this is one laptothat basically does everything. Now it doesn't have a GPU on itand that's okay considering its sizbut you could use an external GPif that's really important to you. But you're never reallgonna find anythinthat does as much as thidevice does for that pricand still looks that good. So for me, the Specter X360'still one of the best 1inch laptops on the markeconsidering its price, itvalue, and functionalityand overall its designit's just an awesome thing. Now HP you can still make it betterso please pay attention to that. Do it and you'll have one othe best laptops ever created. Alright so that does it for this review. Now if you have any questionscomments, or recommendations for Hwell, leave them in the comments below. I'll take a look at those. Thanks for watching, take care everyone. Oh man. Now let's talk about thbattery life of this devicso (bleep). Let's talk about battery life hereHP's claiming around 22 hourwhich is of course absurdthat is using the full HD versiowith their new low wattagoh come on Dan (sighs).
