Thank you for supporting the channel! - Before buying a MacBookyou need to answer these three questions. First of all, do you need MacBook Air or a MacBook Prothen which size do yoneed, and then finallywhich configuratiowould work best for youSo let's talk about thimportant differencebetween the five M3 MacBooksand this way, you coulhave all the informatiothat you need to choosthe right MacBook for you. We're going to start out witthe least expensive modelthe 13 inch MacBook Aiand then work our way up. And this was a relativelincremental updatfrom the M2 model. It starts out at $1,100which is actually $100 lesthan the M2 model wawhen it was released. And this makes sense becausthere's a lot of similaritiestarting with the identicadesign, shape, and weightall of which were major upgradewith the previous model. What's great is that, againwe're getting an extremely capable MacBoothat's also super portable. If you're upgrading from any MacBook Aiprior to the M1 modelsyou're in for a huge jump in performance. And in fact, the MacBooAir has the same M3 chithat you get on the 1inch M3 MacBook Pro. The only difference ithat we're starting ouwith an eight core CPand an eight core GPUand it can be upgraded to a 10 core GPfor an additional 100 bucksand the M3 MacBook Pro onlcomes with a 10 core GPU. Now typically, this GPupgrade is not somethinthat I recommend for most userbecause the target audiencfor the MacBook Air isn't super likelto benefit from additionaGPU performance. And I would rather that youpgrade other components firstand we're gonna go ahead antalk about those later on. Now looking at the displayit's the same 13.6 incliquid retina displathat we had on the M2 model. It's bright, it has small bezelsit's a P3 display, whicis a wider color gamutand it supports 1 billion colors. So whether you're just usinthis MacBook for schoolfor work, to surf thweb, or to watch contentthis display is very good. It's not at the same level athe 14 or 16 inch displaysbut we'll get to those in just a moment. Now the four speaker systeis practically invisiblin the hinge, and considering the designthey get plenty loudthey offer spatial audioand they work well for watching moviesfor playing games, or for video calls. Just like with the displaythese aren't as good athe ones that we're gettinon the higher end MacBooksbut they're very good laptop speakers. Now the camera is the same 1080p camerthat we have on the rest of the lineup. It's noticeably better than the 720p onthat we had on the M1 models. And again, we're combininthis hardware with the new ISPor image signal processor, on the M3 chip. So we're getting a better overall imagwith improved low light performance. The keyboard is excellent. It's the same in evermodel in this entire lineupand it might be the best keyboaron any laptop that I've tested. It's a great size, it's solidthere is no give wheyou press on the boardand the keys themselves are responsivand have a good amount of feedback. Now looking at the track padApple probably makemy favorite track pads. They're extremely responsive and accurateyou can press anywhereand the only differencbetween the various modelis the size. As far as portswe're getting twThunderbolt 3/USB 4 portand a MagSafe port on the left sidand then a 3.5 millimeteheadphone jack on the right. Now it's important to mention thabecause all three portare on the left sideyou can only attach accessorieor charge the MacBook Air from one side. As far as configuration optionswe start out with eighgigabytes of unified memorywhich can be upgraded to 16 or 24. And for internal storage, wstart out with 256 gigabyteand go all the way up to two terabytes. Now keep in mind thanone of these MacBookcan be upgradedso make sure that you get a configuratiothat will serve your needfor the life of the device. For example, I woulupgrade to 16 gigabyteof unified memory insteaof adding GPU cores. And as far as internal storageget as much as you neefor apps and local fileand then supplement with mucless expensive external SSDs. You can easily get a fastwo terabyte external SSfor under 150 bucks. Now when it comes texternal display supportthere's been some confusion. So the M3 MacBook Aisupports a single externa6K/60 hertz displaif you still wanna use thdisplay on the laptop itself. If you close the MacBook Airthen it will supporanother 5K/60 hertz display. So the maximum number odisplays you're getting is two. Now battery size anrating remain excellent. We're getting an upgraded chipdual external display supportand an upgrade to WiFi 6E. So just like the previous modelthis is an outstanding optiofor the overwhelming majority of userwho need a powerfullight, and portable MacBoofor everyday use, for schoolor general business needs. Now say that you love ththin and sleek designbut you want a larger display. That's when you step up tthe 15 inch M3 MacBook Air. It starts out at $1,300so technically $200 morthan the 13 inch model. But it already includes th$100 upgrade to the 10 core GPU. Again, we're getting an eight core CPU. It starts out with eighgigabytes of unified memorand can be upgraded to 16 or 24. And the internal storageagain, starts out at 256 gigand can go all the waup to two terabytes. Now as far as SSD speedsif you're familiar with anof the M1 or M2 MacBooksyou already know thathe 256 gigabyte versionof the MacBook Airsboth the 13 and the 15come with significantly slower SSD speedthan the larger sizes. We also found some supeinteresting differencewhen it came to largfile transfer speedswhich I show in this comparisowith the 16 inch MacBook Pro. So check it out if you're interested. We're essentiallgetting the same featureand functions as the 13 inch modelbut with a noticeabllarger 15.3 inch displaywhich also has a higher resolution. Another upgrade igoing from four speakerto a six speaker sound systewith force-canceling woofers. So on the 15 inch MacBook Airwe're getting a fuller sounand better overall audio quality. We're getting a larger track paand a larger palmrest assemblyso it's a bit more comfortable to type on. And while we have a largebattery at 16.5 watt hourversus 52.6 on the 13 inch modelwe're getting the same ratinfor 15 hours of wireless weand 18 hours of Apple TV movie playback. Now as far as power adapterthe 13 inch model comes wita 30 watt single port adapteand then an optional $20 upgradto a 35 watt dual USB-C power adapter. The 15 inch MacBook Air already comewith a dual port adapter. And both laptops can accept up to 70 wattfor fast charging. As far as colors, both MacBooAir models are availablin space gray, silverstarlight, and then midnightwhich is supposed to bmore fingerprint resistanthan the previous midnight finish. But I have both, and haven't really noticea major difference. Now neither of the MacBook Airs has a fanso they're absolutely silent. For external display support, againwe're looking at a single external displaif you're using the MacBook displaand then two displays if yoclose the 15 inch MacBook Air. But if you've seen mMacBook accessories videoI showed you how to connecthree external 4K displayto any Mac or MacBook thahas at least an M1 chip in it. And that's in addition tthe MacBook display itself. In that video, I was using the PD2725Ubut BenQ actually makethree different modelspecifically designed for Mac users. These monitors don't just look greatbut they're shipped witdefault color settingthat perfectly match MacBook colors. They also have somethincalled M-book modewhich provides active color syncingso the colors on the MacBook displaand the color on the Bendisplays look the same. And this way, if I'editing videos or photosI know that I can trusthe colors that I see. They have plenty of ports, anthe stand is super versatileso you can tilt youdisplay, lower or raise itand easily switch betweelandscape and portrait mode. They have a built-in KVM switchso you can use the same display keyboarand mouse with two different devices. And I love the Hotkey Puck Gbecause it gives me easy accesto all of the monitors' featurewithout having to mess arounwith tiny buttons othe back of the monitor. So click the link in the descriptioto learn more about BenQ's three displaydesigned specifically for Macsand thank you to Benfor sponsoring this portion of the video. All right, so now we'rgetting to the biggest updatof this year's lineupand that's the new 14 inch M3 MacBook Prowhich replaces the 13 inch M2 MacBook Pro. And here, things get a little confusinbecause of how Apple nametheir MacBooks and their chips. So this is the 14 inch M3 MacBook Proand we also have a 1inch M3 Pro MacBook Pro. And you'll see in a minutthat while they look very similarthey don't have the same features. So starting out, whave a much thicker bodthan even the 15 inch MacBook Airbut we have the same overall shape. The MacBook Pro has twThunderbolt 3 portsa MagSafe port, and a 3.millimeter headphone jacon the left, then an SDXC card readeand an HDMI port on the right. Now I love the SDXC carreader on the MacBook Pro. This way, I don't have tbring a dedicated card readeor an adapter with me whenever I travelbut I know that that's nomeaningful for everyone. Also, the HDMI porgives you compatibilitwith more monitors withouneeding an adapter. But we're actually taking a step bacwith external display supporbecause the M3 MacBook Pronly supports a single displawith up to 6K/60 hertz over Thunderbolor a single display with uto 4K/144 hertz over HDMI. So regardless of whethethe MacBook is opeor closed, you can't ustwo external displaywhich is strange for a Pro devicconsidering that it's a featurthat's available on the Air. Now looking at the built-in displaywe're getting a nice upgradwith a 14.2 inch liquiretina XDR display. And this is the same displathat we're getting on thhigher end M3 Pro MacBook Pro. It's an absolutely incredible displayit's super sharp, thcolors look amazingly crispand because it's a mini LED displaversus LCD on the MacBook Airwe're getting more dimminzones with darker blacks. And the MacBook Pro ia hundred nits brightefor SDR content and goeup to a thousand nitof sustained full screen brightnesand 1,600 nits peabrightness for HDR content. Now if all you watch is SDR contentthen it's not a major differencebut more and more contenis being created in HDRand then the differencis definitely noticeable. It also has ProMotionwhich is Apple's adaptivrefresh rate of up to 120 hertz. And essentially, dependinon what you're doingthe display can go from 24 hertall the way up to 120 hertin order to optimize the user experiencand maximize battery life. We're getting a slightly smaller track pathan the 15 inch MacBook Aiand the black keyboard well, which I love. All of the MacBooks now hava full height row of function keyand a large touch ID buttonso no more touch barwhich I actually likebut some of you're gonnmiss and some of you are not. We're getting the same 1080p camerabut the speakers are upgradeto a high fidelity six speaker system. And I know this sounds similato what we're getting witthe 15 inch MacBook Airbut these speakers are now positioneon the side of the keyboardand the sound qualitis noticeably better. Now all three Pro modelcome with an activcooling system or fanswhich means that there'no drop in performancas the CPU is being pushed t100% for a long period of timversus the MacBook Air modelthat show about a 7.5% drop. And this is because thCPU on the MacBook Aihas to throttle back performancin order to keep the temperature down. The M3 MacBook Pro starts out at $1,600and that's with an eighcore CPU, a 10 core GPUeight gigabytes of unified memoryand 512 gigabytes of internal storage. So we are getting the faster SSDbut we're still looking a100 gigabytes per seconof memory bandwidth. That's the same as the MacBook Air. The unified memory cabe upgraded to 16 or 24and the internal storagcan go up to two terabytesagain, just like the MacBook Air. We're getting a 70 watt hour batterwith the same rating fowireless web as the MacBook Airbut four hours longer foApple TV app movie playback. We're also getting a 7watt USB-C power adapteand an optional $20 upgradto a 96 watt adapterwhich is the maximuthis MacBook will accepfor fast charging. So now we're getting tthe higher end MacBookthat come with the MPro and M3 Max chips. And again, this year, Appldidn't change anythinabout the design anfocused on performance. We're getting the same incredible displaas the M3 MacBook Pro, thsame keyboard, track padand the exact same designexcept that it comes ithis super cool space blacinstead of space gray. Now as far as ports, we sesome meaningful upgradethat actually make thimore of a Pro device. We're getting three Thunderbolt 4 portsone on the right and two on the leftso you can connect accessorieand charge this MacBook from both sides. We're also getting an HDMI portan SDXC card reader on the rightand a MagSafe 3 port on the left. If you get the 14 incmodel with an M3 Pro chipyou can connect up ttwo 6K/60 hertz display. If you get it with an M3 Max chipyou can connect up tthree 6K/60 hertz displaand a fourth 4K/14hertz display over HDMI. So if you wanted to, yocould set up a very powerfuand versatile workstationand essentially use thiMacBook as a desktop. Now speaking of the twvariations of the chipthe M3 Pro comes witeither an 11 or 12 core CPUa 14 or 18 core GPUit starts out with 1gigabytes of unified memorand goes up to 36 gigsand starts out with 51gigabytes of internal storagand goes as high as eight terabytes. When compared with the M3 chipthe M3 Pro gives us twor three additional performance coreand two additional efficiency coresand we can see the differencin multi-core performance. We're also getting better GPU performancand faster memory bandwidth. If you need even better performancethen you can go with the M3 Max chipwhich goes all the way up ta 16 core CPU, a 14 core GPU120 gigabytes of unified memoryand the fastest memory bandwidth. Now keep in mind that thasetup would be complete overkilfor the overwhelming majority of usersand at the same timeit would absolutely crush whasuper demanding users need. Simply put, if you don'know that you need an M3 Maxyou don't need an M3 Max. Now these powerful chips dtake a toll on the batteryso even with a slightly larger batterywe're looking at 12 hours of wireless weand 18 hours of Apple TV. Which brings us to thbiggest and baddest MacBook. It's definitely bigger and heavierbut the 16.2 inch displais absolutely gorgeous. It's a larger version of thliquid retina XDR displathat we saw in the 14 inch model. And this might be the nicest displaon any laptop that I've used. So this happens to be the MacBoothat I take with me when I travel. We're essentiallgetting the same featureand functions as a 14 inchbut the speakers are even better. These actually might be thbest speakers on any laptothat I've ever testedother than the previoumodels of this exact MacBook. We're getting the biggest track pad. And while the keyboard is the same sizethe larger palm assembly, againmakes typing more comfortable for me. When comparing priceskeep in mind that there ino M3 version of this Maxjust M3 Pro and M3 Max. And while it has thsame Max configurationas the 14 inch model, istarts out with a 12 core CPand an 18 core GPU, which ara $200 upgrade on the 14 inch. We're also getting a morpowerful 140 watt power adaptefor fast charging, whicbrings me to battery life. So the 16 inch MacBooPro has a higher ratinthan the 14 inch M3 Pro MacBook Probut the same rating as the M3 MacBook Prowhich puts it at a tie for the lead. I've been using all five othese since they were releasedand the battery life iabsolutely outstandinon all of them. With a typical workloadI have plenty of batterlife at the end of the dayand I only charge theevery two to three days. And it's mostly during daywhere I'm editing videor batch processing hundreds of imagethat I notice the additional capacity. If you don't absolutely need the latesand greatest MacBookI would also consider looking at the Mor even the M1 models. I've made plenty of videoabout those as well. You know what I always saybuy it nice or buy it twice. Good luck, and see you soon.
