So here it is guys the new Xiaomi welit's not actually called a Xiaomanymore it's a readmi it's the redmnote 7 it's their new sub brand obudget mobile phones so they have pocophone they've got black shark and noRedmi so three sub brands for thmobile division at least that is thathey've got so what's interesting abouthis phone well we have a phone that haa quite a good price point 150 us thais in China however that they're sellinit for with three gigabytes of RAM an32 that's the start out model the basmodel so the one I've got here that picked up as a black version and thione has four gigabytes of RAM and 6gigabytes of storage it's got thsnapdragon 616 as the cpu and then thcamera on the rear 48 megapixels thfront-facing selfie cam is 13 your fulspecs are right up here if you'rinterested in that it has a fulthousand milliamp hour battery so thbetter luck should be good and it doelook very promising for that price poinso let's check it out so here is our boredmi note 7 talking about now aextended warranty on this it used to b12 months it's now 18 months but ocourse and that's in China and then yojust get a little bit of a rundown righhere of the specs on the back that ware already pretty much aware of so ilooks like we have a TPU case here now got the black version so right here whave the sim tray tool that's to ejecthat out of course a couple oinstruction manual if that things doelook to be in Chinese and they are anhere is that TPU case I will show yothis on the phone in only a minute yocan see it's one of those cheaper kinof cases but it's great to have this aleast in the box so we know straighaway yet we've got some protection fothe phone and it does of course covethe buttons on the side which is greaso there is our phone and no one's usethis yet which is great I can see thathere's no air bubbles underneath thaand here we have our cable and thcharger so this is a standard chargethis one here this is the 10 watcharger now there is an option in Chinto get the 18 watt charger which is lot faster of course so this one is wita maximum output of 5 volts 2m so it'not going to be super fast or anythinlike that but it should do full chargthe phone in about 2 hours and 1minutes and then here is our cable sit's the typical xiaomi 1 so type finally finally they have used up theimicro USB stocokay so let's check the weight like always do with my phone reviews so 18grams that's not bad and eight point twmillimeters thick however that's withouthat big camera bump which is quite talyou can see because that then brings iup to ten millimeters or just under shere we have down the bottom the type-port loudspeaker and one of these onewill be the microphone so not jewelefiring downwards speakers I think thfront-facing earpiece does double as loudspeaker but I'll confirm that ithis video so it's glass on the rear ihas a very nice smooth edges to it anit looks to me like a painted alloframe that goes around the outside so sfar I mean the build quality to me lookreally good so the SIM tray will takeither a micro SD card nano SIM or twnano zooms it has a rubber gasket arounhere so it does not have an IP ratinofficially but apparently there is somsplash resistance with this phone yocan see there a gasket around it and yeit does have a metal frame too so it'not susceptible to bending up the top whave a secondary mic the use for noiscancellation and in video a 3.millimeter audio jack and yes it stilretains the IR transmitter so great thave 3.5 mini headphone jack and stilhave the IR transmitter there as welyou can see the earpiece at the top ilooks a little bit wider than normal nowe have this what you could call like water drop or a tear drop not shown hernow this is a lot better than a big hugwide notch this camera is 13 megapixelso it is a bit of a downgrade compareto some of the other cameras that we'vgot on front-facing cameras at leasthere are 20 megapixels here in terms omegapixels that is we've got an ambienlight sensor right here and I can sejust inside the earpiece up here they'vgot other sensors so that would probablbe the proximity sensor that's in theras well then on the right side we've gothe volume and power buttons made out middle we've got a good feel to thethey are also painted as well now thilip at the top there you can see that'plastic so it's a plastic that meets anmates in with the rear housing that ihas on here so in the case you can senow that it doesn't actually offeprotection for the screen because thcase itself does not raise up highethan the screen so if you place it on table it is then gonna get scratched anthe same goes for the camerunfortunately you can see the camerbump does not get any protection at also same story place it down on a tabland it could end up getting the lenscratch therfor a starter case that we get in thbox I think it's fine it does at leasprotect their buttons as I pointed ouand it's better than nothing and doegive the phone a little bit of gribecause right now here and winter mhands are cold this is a glass phone anit is super slippery so out of the bothe phone does come with a rather largupdate that you need to install onpoint eight gigabytes and that'll brinit up then to me or I version ten pointwo point five so my phone has fougigabytes around the other version thcheapest one has only three and out othe sixty four gigabytes that I've goI've got 49 free available to me I'm ocourse installing apps and things at thmoment and it is running Android security patch level from December anfor those of you out there that musknow this watedropped notches we're getting a littlbit of uneven backlight distribution syou see like a darkness coming in on thedges it's noticeable on the sides awell so the bezels yeah the top anbottom bezels they're not the smallesbut I feel for the price that this phonis selling for I mean it's perfectlsuitable it's fine and the water drop oteardrop notch whatever you want to calit I think is a good substitute insteaof having a big wide not unlike alother Xiaomi phones since I think it wamenu I seven or eight or something we'vgot this option here so under thcontrast and colors under display yocan adjust the white balance and you cajust put it on to standard which looks little bit more correct that's the beswhite balance there so if you want themore correct white balance that's thone to have it on but of course out othe box it's on the automatic contrasso our maximum brightness is good it'575 lux which is very good I feel fothe price now when have a look at thgamma it is off it's about 1.8 and ishould be 2.2 real-world images they dcome out good on the screen and agaifactoring in the price I mean the blackon this IPS they're not the deepest buthey are recently dude so that is reallthe only complaint I have is just thaedge bleating about darkness we'rgetting around the edges around thteardrop notch that is really ad overalI feel agaifactoring on that price that this is noa bad IPS screen it's even better thathe one that I've seen in the honor ou-20 and if you're wondering where ithe status LED well here it is righdown here in the chin in a very unusualocation I put it here obviously thedidn't have room to put it up the top sI wanted to talk now about the generaperformance show you a couple obenchmarks so I have noticed that atimes you will get just the minoslightest tiniest little bit of a fulstream screen gesture lag coming in buoverall it seems to be pretty good wheyou go through multitasking so we'lbring up here the antutu score and a loof you like to see that so here's thante to score almost 140,000 not a bascore for this chipset so maximuturbo's 2.2 gigahertz eight cores it ireally quite good paired up with thfour gigabytes of RAM on my particulamodel here now DRM info whoops I jusaccidentally closed them and I'll jusbring that up for you now so DRM info ocourse it's wide fine level securitthree level so that means no net fluand full HD we need security level onfor that Chinese manufacturers they'rnot going through that process to gethe cert for that and it's happening oa lot of tablets and a lot of the ticthat I review it's only huai whether iseems to bother to get level one so beathat in mind with a budget device is ia deal break and not having Netflix ifull HD I don't know I don't watcNetflix on my mobile phone normally sthe storage internal storage should jusbring up a couple of benchmarks to othat here we go so it does have a MM5.1 specs storage now I expected thiwe're not going to get you FS 2.1 not athe price point of this and those speedare fine it's not going to bbottleneckinand the system here at all with that analso to test out the wireless so he casee this is actually LTE speeds here iSpain not bad at all 35 download thsignal strength perception all seems tbe fine there and here was my wirelesspeed test too so that's perfecno problems with that GPS as well it'working good if we get almost all of lift it up looks at me unlocks nothe thinker print reader on the rear ocourse there is always on and when yotouch it it unlocks instantly and abouwell under half a second it's very quicso I do that you know touch it now anyou can see that's how quick it inow bomb very quick so no problems witthe face unlocking all the fingerprinreader now for gaming performance I'going to test out pop G here with thhigh frame rates inning and then HD iour graphics let's see how it performso you can see pump G is running finthere's another couple of players herso I'm probably gonna actually just dialready okay it doesn't seem to be baat all to me in the high setting you'rnot really getting much lag if anactually that seems to be pretty goookay tiny little bit then when scrollinaround this title here is shadow gulegends and it is running on higsettings and visually it looks stunninthis one you get a little tiny bit oslowdown here and there but overall thperformance is good and I'm not reallnoticing any major frame dips so it'not like I'm playable like it was on thalder cube X tablet that I looked awhich had a very old mediatek chip anit couldn't handle this game with snapdragon 616 handling this portrait mode using the duacameras it'll stitch together an imagI'll give you samples of that shortland with video here I just wanted tpoint out that if go into the settingthat we do have this right here which ielectronic image stabilization you casee our video quality the maximusetting is 1080p 60 frames per seconI'm gonna shoot it in 30 becausactually looks a little bit better so n4k 4k is missing for some reason buanyway here are those sampleso here's a video sample there's a fronfacing camera and we get 1080p max herthere's a no electronic imagstabilization so it's gonna be a littlbit shaky the crop on it is actuallquite good which is fine I find thaudio quality as well yeah it's alrighit's not the best but I've definitelheard a lot worse than this overalfront-facing video quality I think it'good it's not bad so this video is beinshot at 1080p 30 frames per seconthere is no 4k option you have to use third-party app at the moment or evecamera for that now there is a bit owind noise that gets picked up here it'a little bit windy at the moment and yocan see the electronic imagstabilization in 1080p here is workinfine like I'm walking forward and it'taking my legs out of it and there is bit of a problem at times I find witthe focus it does tend to hunt a littlbit now and then depending on thconditions it's not as good to focus athe redmi note 2 5 whether it's duapixel face detection autofocus yonotice that yeah it works but sometimeisn't gonna work there the focus comeinto play now but with their redmi not5 there would not be a problem therwhether it's dual pixel autofocus and wdo have at least 4k with electroniimage stabilizatiothanks to that application I mentioneopen camera and you can see it's workinquite well as long as you've got steady here my hand is not the speediesthis is now sample of video in low-lighnow the sun went down about an half ahour an hour ago so there's still little bit of light around you can see lot of grain starts to creep into thimage and they focus then does start tstruggle quite a bit and I found thathe low-light photography as you sinfrom my samples is not wonderful anit's kind of what you expect in thicategory and the price of course of thiphone we're not wonderful at low-lighalright so to quickly recap here we havan excellent build quality so I've got middle frame around the outside that ipainted glass on the rear we do havGorilla Glass 5 I think is on the fronscreen too which is good and it's gonnbe a little bit more scratch resistant little bit more resistant to drops toso the water drop notch does look okaI'm fine with it I thought it woulbother me but it's not really that baat all in fact I think ibetter than the punch hole in the screeof those two mobiles that I reviewethat had to hold their I think this ibetter so we have a very good build yefor the price definitely it's excellentype C port finally no more micro USports finally the view start of histock Xiaomi I was getting really sicof micro USB ports but that's good sthe voice quality I have made some voiccalls on this very good face unlockinvery fast as I demonstrated you juslook at it and it unlocks it's reallquick in fact I'll do it now and iunlocks it's really good fingerprinreader as well do that I'll just toucit now but really quick no complaintwith that whatsoever so it does have large 4000 milliamp hour battery on herand my estimate is about 9 to 10 hourof screen on time with the IPS panethat this has on herour charging time is going to be jusover about 2 hours if you're using th10 watt charger it does support thfaster 18 watt charges so that time wilthen drop down to just under about ahour and 50 minutes but I will havexact figures are with battery life ian up-and-coming video maybe like aftethree or four days of using this phonat least to get those kind of figurethere so the camera quality yes we'vgot 48 million pixel sensor on the reaand yeah I mean the the photo quality think is good it's not amazing but fothe price it certainly does take a goophoto the portrait mode stitching awell seems to be good front facincamera okabed to see no 4k support yet with videso hopefully they're going to add thalater on now the ROM performance versmooth for the most part if you're got real keen eye you can see tiny littlmicro stutters here and there now anthen just with the full screen just ait seems to happen there's something'been happening for a long time witXiaomi and it is almost completely gonI'm still seeing a tiny little bit of ithere's no LTE band 20 for those thaneed this but the Chinese version awell a lot of Chinese bloatware and icomes to probably the biggest negativfor me and this is me being very pickbut when you do look at the screeespecially at the top at certain angleyou will see that darkness that comes ithere it's not a PS bleed but it's jusa it seems to be from the manufacturinprocess to create that little notch athe top that we are getting like thidimming this darkening of the pixelwe're not getting a evenly distributebacklight the whites they're especiallnoticeable as I pointed out when showed you some of the screen at the tothat's just not a super high quality IPpanel that is in there's the brighis good around 570 lux which is vergood you can see it in daylight that ifine I feel again the charmese done ifor the price of around about a hundrein this one cost about 200 us this fougigabytes of RAM and 64 bytes of storagfor the price you are getting fantastic phone I can see that alreadand they've done it again they've sethe price for the quality of
