I compared the performance and battery life of Galaxy S24 vs Galaxy S23. The S24 that I used has Exynos 2400 while the S23 has Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Exynos historically does not hold as much battery as Snapdragon, in this test, I wanted to see whether S24 can hold up to S23. I did a speed test, GPS test, and Benchmarking using Geekbench and 3DMark. I then played Genshin Impact to test the gaming performance, thermals, and heating. I really wanted to know if Exynos runs hotter than Snapdragon and whether the battery lasts longer. I did another review of the camera comparison of Samsung Galaxy S23 vs S24 that you can find in the channel. Disclaimer: I made a mistake around 8:11 and mistakingly connected S23 to Wi-Fi. This was an error but only happened in the last part of the result and does not have more than 1% impact. I have the S24 Exynos versiowith me on the left sideand the S2Snapdragon on the right. Today I will answer whether the speedperformance and battery life of S2Exynos can compare to the S23 ithe real life. Let’s start by speed testing. I used both phones for a few dayand my personal experiencis that the battery lifand speed are very closebut we should do proper testinto know this for sure. Galaxy S24 has 0.1 inch larger displayhas 100mAh larger battery and 1.times larger vapor chamber for coolinthe device and has adaptive refresh ratewhich means the refresrate of the displays can go down to (one). So in theory, it should last longer. And since it has the latest Exynos 240against the last generation of Snapdragonwhich is the Snapdrago8 Generation 2the performancshould also be much better. One thing I want to mention right awais that the Galaxy S24 Exynos 240doesn't support Wi-Fi 7. Wi-Fi 7 is faster than Wi-Fi 5. Right now, both phones are connected to Wi-Fi. I would turn off the Wi-Fi connection sooand would connect them to the 5G network. I am Mo, and you may already knothat I'm kind of a scientist myself. I did my doctoral degrein computer science at NTU, in Singaporeand in sciencwe have something called A/B testing. So what you do is firsyou want to lay out a hypothesiand then you control the environment. And with A/B testing, you checif your hypothesis is correct. Therefore, I created the hypothesithat the S24 EXYNObattery lasts longecompared to the S23. Another hypothesis that I havis that the S2Exynos also performs better than the S23in most of use cases. To test both of themI do a through real lifbattery and performance testwith both of themwhich will take me a full day. In the end will all knowhether my hypothesis is corrector the S23 will surprise us. So grab your popcorand let's get into it. The room temperature is 2degrees Celsius, which is 77 Fahrenheit. I made sure both phones had the sambrightness level and I set it manually. Both phones are running Wi-Fin the beginning, and then we connecto 5G after the YouTube test. Both have the same application seand setting, and are one week oland the battery is already calibrated. So as you saw, most of thtime, Galaxy S24 is faster than the S23. There is just one exception. When I run Adobe premiere Rushit took S24 much longeto export the 4K videcompared to the S23. That is not a big issusince this could be the casthat Adobe premiere Rush is not optimizefor the S24 Exynos. What worries me a lot after doinall the tests is the facthat the body temperature of S2is two degrees higher than S23. The problem is the heat degradethe longevitof the batterand other parts of the phoneand the testthat I run was just running dailapplicationand lite games. For the next testI run a YouTube short in a loopto see how much the battery drains. One thing you may notice is colors othese two displays are very different. The tone of S24 is milderbut the S23 is sharper and more vivid. It kind of dependwhich one you prefer yourself. At the end of the tesS24 had 1% less batterand also was one degrewarmer than the S23. The interesting thing is that the battertemperature of S24 was coolerwhich is most likely due to a largevapor chamber. I also check the temperaturoff the back of the phonand the Galaxy S24 was agaia degree higher than the S23. Now both phones are at 92and I am going to go for an hour's walk. I will track my walk in three partswith Strava, adidas runningand the Galaxy Health app itself. and we will see whicphone loses more battery. While I ain Viennand the weather is a little bit windy. It would be lovely if you like the videand subscribe to the channel. It means a lot to me. I am almost at 1000 subscribersthis close to get to the goalso let's see what the result tells uabouthe GPS tracking. I'm back and both phones are at 77%. The route that I took doesn't always hava good signal and that GPS was always up. There is a fear that with a bad signalExynos loses more battery. At least that is not what I experienced. A huge extra point to S2because the GPS accuracy was much better. I compared my activity to the activitthat I tracked with my Garmin watcand it ismuch more comparablto it, for example S2says my max speed is 8.3 km/hwhich is 5.1 mph. That is a running speeand it's not accurate at all. S24 says it is 6.6 km/hwhich is 4.1 mphand is closer to reality. Next, I ran the camera on 4K and 60 frameper seconds. In the middle of the testthe S24 camera stopped to work. I assume it is due to overheatingbut I cannot confirm it. That was around the 20 minutes mark. I restarted the test after. Again the same story. The body temperature of S2is one degree lowerbut the battery temperature is one degrehigher than S24. Then I left the phone with the screen ofor half an houand to my surprise S24 lost less battery. Now the S24 is 56% and S23 is 55%. Let's move to benchmarks. First I run Geekbench CPU test. Galaxy S24 got 25% better results imulticore. The single core was very close. Then I run the CPU test and GalaxS24 dominated this file. It got a 70% betteresult, which is crazy. Now we are at 49% battery for both phones. They are going shoulder to shouldeThen I ran a wildlife extreme test. It is a 20 minute test to test the gaminperformance of the device undeheavy use. One thing I should mention thoughis when I was studying chipset desigback in universitythe professor who was workinin the famous chipset manufacturetold us that lots of companieoptimize the chipsets to rubetter for famous benchmarks. So don't take the results always toseriously and don't get hung up on them. Both phones are burninby the end of the test and it's not easto grab them. Honestly, I kind of feel bad for them. They are 42 degrees Celsiuswhich is 108 degrees Fahrenheit. From my personal experiencethis is as hot as the phone getsbecause higher than thatthe CPU starts to throttleor in case of the camerit just stops to work. The result was better on S24but only slightly. S2also used one percent battery more during the test. One important thing that I noticeis S2Exynos gets coolemuch faster than the S23mostly because of a large vapochamber. Just after a few minutes, the S24 battertemperature was six degress lower thethe S23. Now S24 is 29% batterand the S23 is at 30. Next, I played Genshin Impacfor 10 minutes on each phone. Genshiimpact is a very demanding gamand I put this setting into the maximufor both phones. Both handled 60 frames per seconwell in the beginning, but struggleand throttled a bit towards the end. The bodtemperature of S24 is three degreehigher than the S23. That's a lot of degress. The only place the thermal of the S24 ibetter was during the Geekbench test. Now the S23 is completely ahead with 16battery left compared to 12% of S24. To finish the batteries, I play YouTubshorts and YouTube 4k videos. It is getting really exciting. Can the S23 outperformS24 in terms of battery lifeSeems like it. Oh my GodOh my GodS23You did ityou son of a boy! You did itYou knoweven though I did bet on the S2in the beginning, at the end of the testI was standing on my feewatching the last percentage of S2go down to zero, and I was cheerinfor S23 to hang in there. S2was the underdog and surprised me. So let's say it agaia phone with 100mAmore batterand a 1.5 timelarger vapor chamberlost to a phone from the last generation. I would just leave it at that. I don't know what to say. I wanted the Exynos to win. Not long agoExynos was the better chipset. Maybe some of you remember those days. To be fair to Exynos, the only place thait used more battery was Genshin Impact. But maybe the game is very poorloptimized for Exynos. Also fivpercent can be simply a margin of erroand maybe if you run the same scenarioGalaxy S24 wins next time. So my verdict is both phonehave almost the same battery. The S24 Exynos performance is bettein most use cases and benchmarksbut to mit looks like it heats more than the 23. On the other handit also cools down faster. You know, I kind of understanthe decision that Samsung executives made. You cannot just shut dowyour chipset factory. They probably made a strategic decisioand they knew the riskbut then they went ahead with it anyways. So it is official. My first hypothesis was wrong. S24 Exynos did not lasas long as the S2Snapdragon in this specific testhat I have donemaybe in another tesyou get different results. My second hypothesis was almost right. S24performance is much bettein almost all use cases. If you enjoyed this videoI did a through comparison of the camerof these two phonesso go ahead and click on the videthat is popping up right now. Let me know what you think abouthe difference between these two phones. Thanks for tuning into Techmand until the next one, Bye!
