With detachable hand controllers this is the
Legion Go Lenovo's first handheld gaming device
and it's good really good the device has
a large display, hall sensor thumb sticks
that minimize wear and tear dead zones
and drift, multiple control options the
ability to turn a handheld controller into
a mouse and a full version of Windows 11
but it's not perfect and it won't be for
everyone so if you are in the market for
a handheld gaming device then watch this
review to the end as it may well be the

inside the box you'll find the legion go a
controller base a power adapter and a carry case
now the legion go isn't small in fact it's one
of the largest handheld gaming devices currently
on the market measuring 30 cm in length 13 cm in
height and has a depth of 4 cm and nor is it light
weighing 854 with the controllers attached however
despite this the legion go is comfortable to hold
and controls are well placed and it's here on the
controller side of things where the device stands
out as there are no less than 10 buttons on the
controllers four at the back two on the right
and four at the top there's also a mouse wheel
on the back of the right controller and on the
front of each controller is a clickable Hall sensor
thumb stick now for those of you who don't know
what this means is a hall sensor or effect thumb
stick has no physical contact between the
moving Parts this means they don't wear out easily
and they don't develop stick drift other control
options include a d-pad on the left controller
and a trackpad and Xbox styled abxy buttons on
the right there's also a function button at the
top of each controller along with an in-game menu
button and view button located Midway down on the
left controller and if that wasn't enough it has
a touchscreen display as well in summary there are
enough control options on the Legion go to satisfy
most if not all Gamers needs but it doesn't just
stop there you see the legion go has a few tricks
up it sleeve that most its competition can't do
the first is the controllers can be detached from
the screen and together with the kickstand at
the back of the display that can be varied in
angle it means you can sit back and enjoy gaming
whilst the display sits on a flat surface and if
you want to you can turn the right controller
into a mouse by switching on the FPS button
located under it and then in inserting it into the
magnetized controller base once done you can then
navigate around the screen and play games using
the controller as a mouse and if you really want
to you can connect the legion go to an external
mouse keyboard and monitor turning it into a fully
fledge PC So that's its impressive design and
controll layout but what are its specs well the
legion go is powered by an MD ryzen zed1 extreme
processor it has 16 GB of ddr5 RAM running at 7500
m it comes with 512 GB of internal storage with an
option to select 1 tbte if you're located in the
United States however whichever option you choose
you can increase the storage by up to 2 tabt by
inserting a Micro SD card the legion go also has
an 8.8 in Quad HD Plus IPS touchscreen that has a
screen resolution of up to 2560 x600 and a refresh
rate of up to 144 Herz in addition there are also
two us USB C ports one at the bottom and one at
the top along with volume buttons at the top a
power button a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a Micro
SD card reader so what's it like to Game On well
it's good in fact it's very good particularly
if you're looking for a portable Windows gaming
device you see the legion go is essentially a
small computer running the windows 11 operating
system meaning you can install and play games from
all your favorite gaming clients including steam
the epic game store play Gog Xbox and more and as
a PC Gamer myself I've been thoroughly enjoying
it but rather than going to all the detail
about what each game is like I'll simply show
you games on the legion go look fantastic
providing Sharp Images and Rich colors blacks
may not be on the same level as an OLED screen but
they are extremely good good and the game play has
been smooth although this has varied depending
on which game I've played where I have at times
needed to turn down both the resolution and frame
rate the thumbsticks on Legion go are extremely
responsive and to date I haven't noticed any
dead zones nor drift and having the menu and
function buttons close to hand makes accessing
menus and changing settings very easy however
good though playing games on the legion go is
it's the detachable controllers that for me let
it down as although they work they feel more of
a novelty than an actual benefit the problem is
then not as comfortable to use or hold as when
they are connected to the device and playing
games with the right controller set up as a
mouse has proved to be more frustrating than
useful and this is because some of the games
think you have a keyboard attached when FPS is
enabled requiring you to press various buttons
during a game such as the space bar or a letter
and to get past it I've had to turn off the FPS
switch that said with the controllers attached I
have been enjoying gaming on the lead and go
particularly with an external mouse keyboard
and monitor attached which can be achieved by
connecting them directly either to Bluetooth one
of the USB C ports or by using a USB C Hub if you
are interested in this I've added a link to the
hub I ports in the description below navigating
around the legion go is straightforward the left
function button opens lenovo's Legion space app
which among other things allows you to install
and access different game clients purchase games
through different stores access all the games you
have in installed from one place and more the
right function button allows you to change the
performance of the device and adjust many other
aspects including the screen resolution frame
rate brightness contrast Cooling and more all of
which helps you manage how well the device works
with different gains however as good as the legion
go is it's not without its frustrations detachable
controllers aside the battery life while gaming
is average at best lasting between 1 to 2 hours
gaming on the device is fantastic but you will
notice the drop in performance when you unplug
it from the mains the legion space app doesn't
always work well and I'm increasingly finding
myself going to a game client to open a game
and the placements of the buttons whilst good
are awkward to reach for smaller hands so what
are the pros and cons of the Legion go while the
graphics look fantastic the multiple control
options should satisfy most Gamers needs the
ability to detach the controllers and set one up
as a mouse is a novelty offering something many of
its Rivals don't the device is powerful enough to
play most of the games out there although you will
need to adjust the settings for some games you
can access all your favorite PC games while on
the move and you can turn the device into a full
PC by attaching external devices and perhaps most
importantly it's a lot of fun to Game On however
the battery doesn't last long while playing games
the device is large and heavy to carry around
the buttons are awkward to reach for small hands
the detachable controllers feel more of of a
novelty than a real benefit gaming with the
right controller set up as a mouse is frustrating
and I've stopped using it and at $700 or dollars
the legion go is an expensive device particularly
compared to the competition in summary the legion
go certainly isn't perfect but surprisingly it
has grown on me and I've been using it more often
than I thought I would however the detachable
controllers are a big disappointment and the
battery life is well I expected more so should you
get one well if you're a PC Gamer who has multiple
games spread out in different gaming clients or if
you're looking for a portable gaming device that
has more controller options that you can throw a
stick at and you don't mind the Windows operating
system then you may want to consider getting one
